KOCHI: The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) had decided to take Masters Athletics under its wings and will be directly organizing competitions for them.
The move comes after AFI received several complaints regarding irregularities in the working of Masters Athletics Federation of India. The issue was raised in several AGMs of AFI and it was brought to light that there are several organisations in the name of Masters Athletics but none of them were affiliated to AFI.
From now on, only those athletes who will register themselves with AFI will be eligible to compete in national championships.
AFI will open the registration process for Master Athletes on its website from Saturday (April 10) and it will be open till May 10. The registration fee for a master athlete would be Rs 1000 and the minimum age is 35. All those athletes who will be registering themselves with AFI will be provided an AFI-UID and only those will be allowed to participate in national championships organized by AFI.
Once the registration process is completed, the AFI is hoping to organize a national championship for master athletes.
