Kamali From Nadukkaveri (transl. Kamali from middle Kaveri) is a 2021 Indian Tamil language drama film written and directed by Rajasekar Duraisamy on his directorial debut.[1] The film stars Anandhi, Rohit Saraf and Azhagam Perumal in the lead roles.[2] The film is loosely inspired from yesteryear film Kadhal Kottai (1996). The film had its theatrical release on 19 February 2021 and opened to mixed reviews from critics.[3][4][5]

Kamali’s father wants her daughter Kamali (Anandhi) to get married soon as he believes that it is not worth enough for girls to pursue higher education. Kamali who herself deemed as a weak student at a Tamil medium state board school starts to dislike studies and also does not hesitate her father’s wish of getting her marriage done. However, things take a swift turn when she starts to fall in love with a nerd boy Ashwin (Rohit Saraf) who is also a CBSE topper after seeing his interview through TV. Ashwin aims and intends to join the IIT Madras campus. This motivates Kamali to concentrate ang focus on her studies seriously and somehow manages to convince her father to pursue higher education. She gets the help of a retired professor Arivudainambi (Prathap Pothen) and she eagerly prepares for the exams in order to join IIT Madras.[6][7]

The film was initially taunted to have its theatrical release on 17 April 2020 but it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[8] The film had its theatrical release on 19 February 2021 with 50% seating capacity.[6]
